The 2011 Yorkton Spring Expo begins Friday at the Gallagher Centre.

The show is noted for its array of display booths and this year there are 161 booked for the event.
The curling rink is filled with recreational vehicle displays, boats, campers and quads, while other displays range from pots and pans to make-up and jewellery.

A new event at this year's Spring Expo is a Green Thumb Seminar series. The topics of the series, which will run throughout Saturday and Sunday will relate to gardening. Presenters will be from Young's Plant World, Prairie Dome Strawberries and the City of Yorkton, explained Shaun Morin, manager of the Yorkton Exhibition Association (YEA).

The YEA is again organizing the Expo in cooperation with the Yorkton Sunrise Lions Club.
Another new highlight for the show is a Spring Exotic Animal Auction which will be held in the Agripavilion at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Long a popular event at Harvest Showdown in November, the idea of adding a spring sale came from contributors, said Morin.

"They said why not do one in the spring. That's when there's a big demand for them (exotic animals)," he said.

The event runs 1-to-9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-to-9 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday 11 a.m.-to-4 p.m. Admission is free all three days.
