The grace and elegance of one of the world's most beautiful ballets, Swan Lake, will be coming to Yorkton when Ballet Jörgen performs at the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Yorkton Regional High School, on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Ballet Jörgen is "recognized for the innovation, warmth, humour and beauty in its works. For 25 years, the organization has sought to advance the art and appreciation of ballet and Canadian choreography through performance, educational experiences and outreach." This hard-working ballet troupe performs to more than 50,000 people each year from coast to coast, with more than 120 shows.
They take their shows to rural, urban and inner-city communities, and are proud to offer programs that are geared specifically for children in addition to their main repertoire. Their goal is to "to become a national company anchored by its links to communities across the country and built on a foundation that reflects various regions of Canada; a company that makes ballet relevant, comfortable, part of growing up, part of the fabric of regular life, as community friendly as hockey or curling". It is this desire to make ballet "audience friendly" that makes Ballet Jörgen widely recognized and appreciated for their innovation, warmth, humor and beauty.
The Yorkton Arts Council is delighted to welcome Ballet Jörgen to Yorkton during this, their 25th anniversary year. Their presentation of the classic "Swan Lake" will be a treat for the audience. The story has it all: a handsome hero (Prince Seigfried), a beautiful heroine (Odette, the Swan Queen), an evil sorcerer (Von Rothbart) who casts the spell that turns Odette into a swan; Von Rothbart's scheming daughter (Odile) who tries to win the heart of the Prince; plus love, intrigue, exquisite dancing, and the beautiful haunting music of Tchaikovsky. It will be a performance to remember!
