In terms of surgical wait times Sunrise Health Region is running well-ahead of the provincial averages.
That was the good news the Sunrise Health Region Board heard at its regular monthly meeting last week.
Suann Laurent, CEO and president of SHR gave the Board a quick look at current data collected under an ongoing provincial initiative.
"The Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative was launched in March 2010, involving government, surgical teams, health providers, administrators and patient representatives in a high-priority effort to streamline surgical processes, improve the quality of patient care and reduce wait times," detailed circulated material.
The goal of the provincial effort is to get all surgery wait times down to less than 90-days.
At present the average of all 10 health regions has 92 per cent of surgeries performed within six-months.
Laurent noted the SHR is one of three regions (with Cypress and Prairie North) to achieve 100 per cent.
The percentage with three months sits at 80 per cent provincially.
Sunrise is at 95 per cent, said Laurent.
"We have a plan to get to 100 per cent within three months," she said, adding that plan should allow the region to hit its goal by the end of March this year.
"The number of surgeries performed provincially to date in 2013-14 has increased by six per cent (4,106 surgeries) over the same period last year. From April 1 to Dec. 31, 2013 there were 64,897 surgeries performed in Saskatchewan, compared to 60,791 in April-December 2012," detailed the circulated report.
