Howard Jackson, who when retired in the 1960s compiled 5 albums of pictorial history of Yorkton, has this to say about the photo:

"The horse and cart was probably not quite as luxurious but certainly was more dependable than the automobile on Saskatchewan roads in 1911."

Jenny Young who became Mrs. R.G. Walden and Margaret Foster who married G.R. Hutchings, were graduates of Yorkton High School. They are both pictured here on their way to teach at their respective schools.

It is totally amazing that they could wear these large ribbon hats with such apparent ease, and at mercy of the ever changing weather.
