Yorkton’s Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble held its annual year-end Spring Showcase concert at the Anne Portnuff Theatre on Sunday, March 20. With over one hundred and thirty dancers forming the ensemble, it was a very enjoyable evening.
Members of the audience were entertained throughout the whole performance. From the young three year olds, to the seasoned adults, audiences were never disappointed with Troyanda’s spectacular performance. Dancing in the colorful, vibrant regional costumes of the Ukraine, Troyanda showcased a wide variety of dance styles such as Poltava, Hutzul, Volyn, Bukovynian and Transcarpathian.
Beginning with the Pryvit, or Welcome Dance, dancers greeted the guests with an offering of bread and salt symbolizing good health, wealth and good fortune of the earth. What followed next were more than thirty dances encompassing all ages. Each dance from each region had its own traditional style of dress, music and movement, all focused on reflecting the diverse regions of The Ukraine. The evening concluded with the well-known Hopak featuring individual talents; energy, tricks and kicks from the boys and elegance and grace from the girls.
This concert allowed all members to show off their talents. Troyanda would like to thank the community for their support in attending their Spring Showcase.
