$7K lost in Saskatoon garage fire

The fire began and was contained in the garage

SASKATOON — Fire broke out in a garage in a residence in the 1500 block of Avenue B North Wednesday night. The damage was estimated at $7,000.

Saskatoon Fire Department received the report at 5:58 p.m. and immediately dispatched three engines, a ladder and rescue truck, and the Battalion Chief.

The information received pre-arrival was that a detached garage had caught fire. Fire crews, upon arrival, observed flames coming from the garage and power lines were knocked down in the alley.

Firefighters advanced a hose line to apply water to the fire. SaskEnergy and Saskatoon Light & Power were also notified.

The fire was brought under control by 6:11 p.m.

Once power was disconnected, an SFD Fire Investigator proceeded to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

The cause of the fire was incendiary, and it was set within the garage. There were no injuries reported to either civilians or firefighters.

The scene was turned over to Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.
