Global Vision held a National Youth Ambassador Caucus in Ottawa this month, and students from Canora Composite School were invited to attend. Megan Tomilin, Mina Mykytyshyn, and Dale Weinbender travelled to the conference.

The caucus, which Tomilin called “an amazing and unique experience,” took place over five days, and featured students from across Canada, including some from Nunavut and Newfoundland. Junior Team Canada helped the students plan celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Canada’s creation, as well as events for the 100th anniversary of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment’s involvement in the First World War.

While in Ottawa, the students participated in a sightseeing tour of Canada’s capitol before meeting with the Jim Watson, Ottawa’s mayor. They also attended a networking banquet with several Canadian MPs.

Mykytyshyn, Weinbender, and Tomilin found the trip to be very interesting, and learned many skills they said they hope to use in their adult lives. Tomilin said in an article she wrote about the event that the highlight of the trip was meeting so many incredible people.

The students would like to thank Simone Achmus for accompanying them to Ottawa and for making the trip possible.
