A design for town hall renovations, the sale of the former A&L Plumbing and Heating building on main street and a code of ethics for members of council were among the items discussed by town council at its regular meeting of November 28.

It was agreed to award the contract for the first phase of the office redesign to Concepts Plus of Saskatoon for a cost of $9,700 plus expenses.

This phase looks at how to re-design the former fire hall portion of the building, making it into the main office which will be accessible without the stairs that are needed to allow access to the current office, Mayor Nancy Brunt explained following the meeting.

Council accepted an offer from Mike Guillet to purchase Lots 1 and 2 of Block 13, Plan S3319, which is the former A&L Plumbing and Heating building at the corner of Third Avenue South and Third Street.

Although outstanding taxes transferred to tax title property amounted to $13,818, council accepted a bid of $1,500 for the property on the condition that “a six-foot privacy fence be constructed, as soon as possible, weather permitting, from the northeast corner of the property going west along the north property line at least to the eastern edge of the building and going south along the east property line at least to the front of the building.”

Council introduced, gave three readings to and adopted a code of ethics bylaw for members of council which is similar to a bylaw previously adopted for town employees.

A bid from Affinity Credit Union for banking services from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018 was accepted.

It was agreed to renew council’s current fire agreements with a change that includes a false alarm call out fee of $150, which would apply when an alarm is cancelled before the trucks leave the fire hall. The alarm will not count as a call under the fire agreements.

Council decided to continue to remove non-structural material located on the north and west sides of the off-stream reservoir as a source for clay or cover material until a contractor can break up the bank of material at the highway No. 8 site which is more easily accessed. It was also agreed that in the spring the levelling of the hill at the former Norther Petroleum Corporation site be pursued and that material be utilized, which should provide an additional one to two years of cover material.

To be registered to attend the 2017 convention of SUMA (Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association) being held in Saskatoon February 5 to 8 are: Mayor Nancy Brunt, councillors Jared Ruf, Jason Pennell, Karen Koreluik and Claire Bishop, and Laura Lomenda, the administrator.

Authorization was granted to allow Anne Schlivert, the new manager of the Assiniboine Valley Health and Wellness Foundation, to attend the Saulteaux Wellness and Healing Committee meeting in Regina on December 12 in place of Councillor Bishop.
