At the most recent Town of Saltcoats council meeting, Councillor Gordon Barnhart brought forward a proposal to beautify and clean up Anderson Lake.

Anderson Lake is located right beside the town of Saltcoats and is partly owned by the Saltcoats Regional Park. The town is so proud of the lake that it is almost a branding for the town, even naming their local hockey club the Saltcoats Laketowners.

Over the past few years, the quality of the water has gotten worse, blue algae has taken over the lake and made it unappealing.

Councillor Barnhart, like most of the residents of Saltcoats, wants that to change and has ideas for a solution.

“There are a few ways to clean up the lake,” stated Barnhart. “Chemical is one of the common ways, but I don’t feel that is what is best for Anderson Lake.”

He discussed the use of aeration to help out. “Aeration,” explained Barnhart, “that’s our possible solution, it’s not overly expensive and will make the lake look beautiful.” He also mentioned the idea of fountains shooting water up from pumps in the lake.
