YORKTON - Cathay Wagantall, has announced she will not seek a fifth term in the next federal election.

“I will continue to represent the wonderful people of Yorkton—Melville until the next federal election is called,” she stated in a release to media Monday. “Those who have served in the past and those currently serving on the Yorkton–Melville EDA board have provided excellent leadership. When the time comes, they will fulfill the responsibility of planning the candidate nomination process.”

Wagantall did not offer a specific reason for not seeking another term in the release.

In the release Wagantall was still pointing the finger of blame at the long ruling Liberals too.

“The depth of ongoing support I’ve received over the past four elections has been both sobering and affirming. Sobering, in light of the overwhelming hardships imposed on the lives of those I represent. The economic sabotage and unethical, regressive overreach of the Carney-Trudeau government continues to deeply affect Canadians,” she stated.

“Yet, it has also been affirming. Over the past ten years and counting, I have witnessed and shared in a deep, prevailing, and confident hope. This hope is rooted in the sound common sense, knowledge, wisdom, and relationship-building that flows from the steadfast pillars of faith, freedom, and family that our communities hold dear. Change will come—and it will be worth the struggle and the wait.”

Then Wagantall shifted gears to offer a series of thank-yous.

“To the Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police—thank you for your acceptance and your patience with me, a civilian,” she said. “You deserve so much more that we can and must give.”

Next came Wagantall’s staff.

“I am incredibly grateful to my professional, capable, and passionate staff—both past and present—on Parliament Hill and in the Constituency,” she stated. “I know they are the very best because of the constant, positive feedback I receive. I simply could not do justice to my responsibilities without them.”

And then her spouse and family.

“I am beyond thankful for the support of my husband and best friend,” offered Wagantall. “He is always by my side in spirit when we are apart—and more often than not, deeply engaged, as we choose to do life together in every way, every day. To our precious three, their amazing spouses, and our ten incredible grandchildren—our gifts from God—please know that although it may be hard to fully understand at times. You are the reason I serve Canada in this way.”
