Dance Raises Money for New Pool

As people rang in 2017 by dancing the night away at the Outlook Civic Centre on the night of December 31, they were also contributing to the community’s initiative for a new swimming pool facility.

The New Year’s Eve Extravaganza event, organized by members of the New Pool Committee along with dedicated volunteers, featured live entertainment by the band Caliber, as well as auction items provided by a total of 26 local businesses and community residents.

After the New Year had been celebrated and by the time the numbers were crunched, the event had raised an impressive $3,793.36 for the new pool, adding to the recent momentum in donations coming in for the project and starting off 2017 on a positive note.

Western Recreation, the chosen pool contractor, is set to begin work on June 1 of this year, with the Outlook facility expected to be completed by July 2018. It’ll be located just southwest of the Jim Kook Rec Plex on the rink grounds.

To date, the new pool project has amassed $1,034,919 in donations, with $53,000 of that in pledged funds, for a total of just over $1,087,000.

With the dance funds added in, that puts the initiative at just under $1,091,000, with another $400,000 to $500,000 needing to be raised to completely pay for the future facility.

The committee hopes to see the pool project continue with this wave of momentum in the coming months in order for the new pool to be paid off by the time construction starts this June.
