A local resident recently donated book bags to the Shaunavon Branch Library to help raise money for their kids programming.
Brenda Waldron, who was Shaunavon's Citizen of the Year in 2020, used her spare fabric from quilting projects to put together the bags for donation.
“I’m a quilter so I always have extra fabric to get rid of, and I know that the library has to raise funds for their kids programming, so it’s a win win,” smiled Waldron, who is also a member of Climax branch of Victoria's Quilts Canada.
“It uses up fabric for me and gives them sales for their kids’ corner supplies,” she added.
Waldron ended up making 50 bags for sale, and they go for $5 each.
This is not the first time that Waldron has donated her quilted book bags to the library.
It's just one of many volunteer contributions the local resident has made to a variety of organizations and projects over the years - that range from Victoria's Quilts to the Southwest Chronic Disease Support Group.
“I just like to help out the community wherever I can," she explained. "I’m a big believer in volunteering and one of the things I can do is donate things like the library book bags, or quilts that can be used for raffles. I was taught that if you have the funds or the ability to supply tools then you should.”
Waldron hopes that people do come out and support the library because it will benefit a large number of people in the long run.
“If the library didn't have the funds to provide the kids programming, that would be detrimental because it's not only good for the kids, but it also brings young mothers together, and that’s why its good for the community,” she stated.
