A former reeve of the RM of Livingston was elected again during a byelection vote held last week.

Gerald Assoignon, retired, who had served as the reeve in 2003 and 2004, was returned to office with 96 votes, according to Yvonne Bilsky, administrator and returning officer. His only opponent, Irvin Chmil, a farmer, received 71 votes.

A total of 167 ratepayers cast ballots on August 12, Bilsky said.

The byelection was needed after Reeve Don Hrycenko had resigned his seat in June. Assoignon will serve on council until the municipal election in 2016. He was to take his oath of office at the regular meeting which was to be held on Tuesday.
