Gervais rink wins 200-plus bonspiel

The Laird Gervais rink of Crystal Lake won the Preeceville Curling Club's 200-plus bonspiel that ran from January 11 to 14. Delmar Pasiechnuk, Ken Bazansky and Jan Gervais were the other team members.

The Laird Gervais rink of Crystal Lake won the Preeceville Curling Club's 200-plus bonspiel that ran from January 11 to 14. Delmar Pasiechnuk, Ken Bazansky and Jan Gervais were the other team members. There was a total of 15 rinks entered in the bonspiel.

            The Brian Peterson team from Sturgis with Ivan and Gail Peterson and Elaine Meachem, placed second. The Bill Foreman rink of Canora with Peter Wiwchar, Dwight MacDonald and Natalie Trebick, placed third.

            Other rinks entered included: Ron Hoehn and Vern Schick, both of Canora; Ted Kreklewetz, Sharon Naclia and Dale Vennard of Norquay and Ron Jaques of Endeavour. The local teams were skipped by: Les Braithwaite, Eugene Gulka, Bob Lebo, Lou Roste, Joe Yacyshyn and Dale Zubko. The local curlers entered as individuals and then teams were put together.

            Nick Bodnar of the Dale Zubko rink drew to within a few centimetres of the pin to win the individual competition. Members of the Peterson Team 1 won the team competition.

            "The club continues to have Monday afternoon reserved for drop-in curling," said Joe Yacyshyn. "Sixteen teams have signed up for the Tuesday two-on-two league. The club will also hold a two-on-two stick-only bonspiel on January 22. Spectators are welcome to attend any of these events."
