A former Melville resident who is a Greystone Scholar at the University of Saskatchewan and who because of her community involvement and academic excellence was accepted into the University of Oxford in England, is the Liberal candidate for the YorktonMelville constituency in the upcoming general election.

Brooke Malinoski was acclaimed the Liberal candidate during a meeting in Yorkton on September 17.

Born and raised in the riding, Malinoski attended Melville Comprehensive School before being accepted to the University of Saskatchewan as a Greystone Scholar, says her biography. Pursuing a double honours degree in both political and indigenous studies, Malinoski says she has always had an interest in Canadian politics. This is reflected in her involvement with Women in the Legislature, an organization devoted to closing the gender gap present in both provincial and federal legislatures.

Selected to spend a year abroad at the University of Oxford in recognition of her community involvement and academic excellence, Malinoski continued to further her commitment to entrepreneurship by entering Oxford Women in Business.

Always interested in expanding and deepening community connection, she became an active member of her Oxford college rowing team and introduced a new role into student government.

Malinoski said that community involvement is of the up-most importance to her and she has been involved with multiple organizations, including Big BrothersBig Sisters, the Open Door Society and other charitable groups.

She said she is driven by a desire to improve the lives of those in her community and she says she is committed to act as an advocate for rural and middle class Canadians.

Her understanding of local issues and her proud commitment to the riding will make her a strong voice for YorktonMelville in Ottawa, the release said.
