Invermay celebrated Canada Day on several fronts

Invermay celebrated many aspects of Canada Day. There was student artwork, poetry and essays about the celebration. The 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag was celebrated along with Canada’s 148th birthday. It was also Sir John A.

There was student artwork, poetry and essays about the celebration. The 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag was celebrated along with Canada’s 148th birthday. It was also Sir John A. McDonald’s 200th birthday. The Golden Age Club enjoyed a full house of celebrants for this occasion.

Sgt. Burton Jones of the Wadena RCMP spoke about the celebration of the fl ag from the RCMP perspective.

Reeve Jack Prychak brought greetings from the RM of Invermay, and Mayor Mike Kaminski brought greetings on behalf of the village.

The highlight of the program was the “proud Canadians presentations” by Theran Josef (India), Zeng Jun Zhang (China) and Jasmine Ferenal (Philipines). Each of the new Canadians shared his/her prespective about why her or she came to Canada and what each is proud of as Canadians. Each presenter was given a Canada Day hat as a souvenir. Kaminski, the program host, provided a presentation about the history of the evolution of the Canadian Flag.

After the program was complete, the guests enjoyed hot dogs, watermelon, Canada Day cake and ice cream.

During the intermission, the guests were invited to view all the student entries in regards to what makes them proud to be Canadians. From first to third place, the students winners were: Kindergarten/Grade 1, Cassidy Bosovich, Halo Engele and Angelo Ferenal; grades 2/3 Amber Mcdonald, Aron Caudal and Christine Cabungcal; grades 4/5, Danika Soltys, Hailie Pozniak and Vince Magnaye; grades 6/7, Raissa Tapat, Jade Fidek and Shelby Wallin; grades 8/9, David Zhang, Shayna Dubas and Brayden Serron; grades 10/12, Sarah Kowalyshyn, Sara
  Ann Carlson-Rush and Alexa Bilokraly.

The Canada Flag coin winners were Amber McDonald, Raissa Tapat and Sarah Kowalyshyn.

The Golden Age Centre Canadian Mint coin raffle winners were: Kathy Minhinnick, first; Mike Husarewich, second; and Joe Barteski, third.

The village Canada Day coin winner was Darlene Graham.

Afternoon entertainment was provided by Elaine Hughes and Company from Archerwill/Kelvington.
