It's a Family Affair at Outlook Bakery

New owners open the doors this week

The newest operators of the Outlook bakery on Franklin Street are making it something of a family affair when it opens for business under their management this Thursday morning, November 30.

Tina Wall and her mother, Anna Dyck, are the mother-daughter duo undertaking this new venture.  Filling out the rest of the staff will be Tina’s sister Margaret as a full-time employee, as well as her two younger sisters Trudy and Annie, who will be helping out part-time.

Perhaps some people in the Outlook and surrounding area may already be familiar with what Tina can do in the kitchen, as she has been known to offer baked goods such as cookies, donuts and pies on the Outlook buy-and-sell page on Facebook.  Whenever she posts something that is available, her orders seem to fill up quick, owing to her skills.

Tina and her family are originally from Kansas, and Wall moved to Outlook back in 2012.  She says opening her own bakery is the culmination of a lifelong dream, and being able to do it alongside her mother Anna and family makes it all the more better.

“Oh my goodness, I don’t even know what to say!” said Tina, on her excitement level prior to opening for business.  “This has been my dream since I was 13, which is when I think I first started talking about it!  I was begging Mom about wanting to open a bakery.  In the town we lived in at the time, there was a little business where I thought, ‘We could put an oven in and we could bake in there!’, which now when you think about it, it might sound ridiculous.  But that’s where it started for me.”

Tina and Anna take over the lease on November 26, just prior to opening a few days later.  Wall says she credits her mother with teaching her everything she knows in the kitchen.

“Mom always baked at home, and she’s done everything,” said Tina.  “I learned EVERYTHING from Mom, and I also worked in the bakery twice, and that just fuelled the dream.  I just love to bake.”

As for what’ll be available for hungry customers to pick up and enjoy, they can expect some variety when it comes to selecting their favourite baked goods.

“I think we’re going to do a variety of breads, as well as donuts and pies, cakes and cookies, and things like pastries and rolls,” said Tina.  “We’re hoping to do a lot!”

Wall says that the bakery is planning to hold a grand opening type event around the middle of December, so the public may want to stay tuned in the coming weeks.
