Junior KCI students recognized for achievements during 2015-16 year

The achievements of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute junior students in grades 5 to 8 were celebrated at the Junior Spectacular Spartans awards evening on June 13.

            The achievements of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute junior students in grades 5 to 8 were celebrated at the Junior Spectacular Spartans awards evening on June 13.

            These students strive to be the best they can be, Tracy Forsythe, the principal, said after welcoming family and friends to the event.

            With Sadie McGriskin and Savannah Zielinski, the SRC junior co-presidents, as emcees, the program began with the singing of O Canada by Makayla Romaniuk.

            Half-way through the program, students in Darren Kitsch’s Grade 5 music class performed a percussion number.

            An award for perfect attendance was presented by Ryan Gareau, vice-principal, to Ysabel Morenos, a Grade 8 student.

            Bookworm awards, in recognition of good reading habits, were presented by Julie Gareau to: Aiden Stone and Zachery Burback, Grade 5; Odi Ogali and Jenaci Pelly, Grade 6; Michael Tourangeau and Aura Whitehawk, Grade 7, and Josh Bielecki and Samantha Chernoff, Grade 8.

            The Young Writers Award, recognizing literary pursuits, was presented by Alexis McGonigal to: Dylan Weis and Will Zarchikoff, Grade 5; Ilyana Carpenter-Bloudoff and Aniyah Pearson, Grade 6; Danielle Rosenkranz and Makayla Romaniuk, Grade 7, and Shaelyn David and Jude Langan, Grade 8.

            The Pi Prize, a recognition in mathematics, was presented by Michelle Guillet to: Curtis Berezowski and Zachary Burback, Grade 5; Cadence Severight and Tynika StrongEagle, Grade 6; Curtis McGriskin and Nicholas Bielecki, Grade 7, and Mila Carpenter-Bloudoff and Kade Wishnevetski, Grade 8.

            The Einstein Award, a recognition of science achievements, was presented by Tyler Lorenzo to: Josh Hilton and Boston Guillet, Grade 5; Kate Erhardt and Tristen Chernoff, Grade 6; Anastasia Schwartz and Aidan Broda, Grade 7, and Maison Davis and Ysabel Morenos, Grade 8.

            The Past, Present and Future Award, recognizing achievement in history and current events, was presented by Ryan Lambert and Amy-Lynn Costigan to: Brandt Bloudoff and Brady Hilton, Grade 5; Riley Harlow and Megan Raffard, Grade 6; Gage Berezowski and Zachary Chernoff, Grade 7, and Zachary Zbeetnoff and Samantha Chernoff, Grade 8.

            Rayan Stanko presented sportsmanship awards to: Petrie Whitehawk and William MacGillivray, Grade 5; Kyler Allen and Paris O’Soup, Grade 6; Ethan Ironstand-Cote and Scarlette Quewezance, Grade 7 and Sadie McGriskin and Ryan Bear, Grade 8.

            The Art Smarts Award was presented by Kristen Doyle to: Petrie Whitehawk and Alexandria Shingoose, Grade 5; Jordyn Thomas and Tynika StrongEagle, Grade 6; Charlotte Henderson and Nicholas Bielecki, Grade 7, and Zachary Zbeetnoff and Charles Spence-Gaines, Grade 8.

            The Spicy Skills Award, in recognition of excellence in cooking and sewing classes, was presented to Grade 8 students Maison Davis and Whyatt Schneider.

            The Wrench Award, for excellence in shop class, was presented by Brian Angeloni to Sadie McGriskin and Ysabel Morenos in Grade 8.

            The Spartan Spirit Award was presented by Glenda Tulloch and Joanne Schwartz to Gerri-Leigh Basaraba, Leah Schwartz and Petrie Whitehawk in Grade 5; Kate Erhardt and Jordyn Thomas, Grade 6; Charlotte Henderson, Chloe Koroluk and Anastasia Schwartz, Grade 7, and Mila Carpenter-Bloudoff, Shaelyn David, Sadie McGriskin and Savannah Zielinski, Grade 8.

            The Carpe Diem Award was presented by Cara Shabatoski to: Gerri-Leigh Basaraba and Jimmy Tao, Grade 5; Elizabeth Spence-Gaines and Karen Luu, Grade 6; Anastasia Schwartz and Keifre Cote, Grade 7, and Brooke Schwartz and Jade Langan, Grade 8.

            The Citizenship Award was presented by Juliana Nichol to Leah Schwartz and Will Zarchikoff, Grade 5; Rylee Zbeetnoff and Eric Moriarty, Grade 6; Chloe Koroluk and Zachary Chernoff, Grade 7, and Liam Lachambre and Savannah Zielinski, Grade 8.

            All the awards, which constituted a medal and certificate, were sponsored by the KCI Student Representative Council.
