A job offer has been posted for the post of Mayor of Churchbridge: Kat King is one of three current applicants for the position.

Talking about the events that led her to want to fill the mayor position, she said, “I moved here 10 years ago. I bought a house in dire need of fixing, put my skills to work and rebuilt it. Eight-years ago the local issues and council came to my attention; The handling of the floods, The major tax increases, The water issues, to name a few.

|I became a regular attendee to the council meetings. The lack of transparency with the accompanying lack of open information and accountability bothered me.

"I am not shy about voicing my opinion... So, I have indicated my displeasure, in writing, addressing these ‘issues’ a few times. To this date, I am still a regular attendee to the council meetings.”

King understands what is required, should she be successful come election time. For the position of Mayor, she said,

“Under Saskatchewan legislation, towns are run on the “council - weak mayor system’. That makes the mayor equal to the council. All bylaws etc. are passed or failed by majority vote. That being said, the position requires the use of common sense, logic and critical thinking. It also requires an outgoing people-oriented skill set with strong ethics. Balancing the day-to-day needs of the town, as a whole, while looking to tomorrow and on, to the needs of the town in the future.

King mentioned her pledge if she became mayor. She offered, “To do the best I can, for the community/town with equal representation across the board. I will be available to you, by appointment for a one-on-one discussion on your ideas and or issues.

My platform: “I will try to hold in line on taxes, with the council, to work out a budget that puts your tax money to its best use for the continuation of services in a responsible and timely manner... I will try to add a set time, at the end of the council meeting, for you to be able to address the council on timely issues, make requests or question the council on town related issues, etc. it is up to you, The Electorate...

“I ask you for your vote take a chance on me. let me work for you, and with you, to see Churchbridge. prosper now and into the future”.
