The Keen Age Centre held a birthday social on April 22.

Musical entertainment was provided by Iris Bodnarchuk on the mandolin. She played a variety of songs so everyone could sing along, said Marie Waselyshen, social committee member.

Edith Kotzer, president, welcomed members and guests.

During the entertainment portion of the program, Bodnarchuk was given a break and Kotzer entertained with jokes. Waselyshen read a poem about volunteers and another poem, The Benefits of Dancing, from the April 2012 issue of Westman Dancer.

“Dancing fills a basic need for society. That need is music and dancing.

Dancing is great to watch and dancing is fun.

Dancing promotes teamwork as there are many different kinds of dancing.

Dancing is aerobic and heart healthy. Dancers not only exercise their bodies, but also their minds.

Dancing promotes friendship.

Dancing provides recreation where people can feel welcome.

Dancing opens the door for travel.

Take your spouse or partner or a friend and go dancing.”

After the poems, Jean Zarazun, social convenor, welcomed Lynn Petryshen, a guest from Crystal Lake.

A total of nine birthday celebrants for March and April were honoured.

Celebrating March birthdays were: Edith Kotzer, Lorraine Katelnikoff, Nettie Okrainetz, Polly Ripa, Mike Waselyshen and Julian Pensaert. April celebrants were: Minnie Rudachyk, Virginia Werner and Gary Nehaj.
