Jeremy Stasiuk is the new Mayor of Langenburg. Previously holding the councillor position, he was acclaimed as mayor without opposition.

Although new to the lead position on the town council, Stasiuk has served on the council as a member of the previous term. Knowing that present Mayor Don Fogg was stepping down, Stasiuk felt he would be a good successor.

Stasiuk made his presence known in town chambers, standing up for what he felt that he and the residents of Langenburg would want, and he hopes to continue his vision as both Mayor and as a ratepayer for the town.

Stasiuk said, “My biggest goal for the town is to continue along the path of moderation. Over the past number of years, Langenburg has seen some considerable upgrades and additions to the community. These range from infrastructure to recreational facilities, to economic development and so on. The town has welcomed a new school, a water treatment facility, a wastewater facility, and is currently building a new swimming pool; we have seen upgrades to several existing facilities, including our parks, sidewalks and streets. Previous councils have managed to do all this without taking on a large amount of debt, and it is my goal that we continue to improve and upgrade in an equally responsible and sustainable manner.” When asked where do you see the need for the council and the town to improve on its already good position, Acclaimed Mayor Stasiuk replied, “If there is a need to improve as a council, I think we need to open up more dialogue with the community. I think we need to let people know that we are approachable and we need to be attentive to the community. I can say with great certainty that I would much rather hear input from the community before and during a project or expenditure than to hear negative feedback after the fact. I think it’s important for everyone to know what channels are available for them to get a message or concern to us at the council. It’s important for everyone to know that there shouldn’t be a division between the council and the community. We are ratepayers just like everyone else and should be here to represent the best interests of our fellow ratepayers.” When discussing possible obstacles Stasiuk foresees for the council and the Town of Langenburg, Stasiuk shared these thoughts, “I think the biggest obstacles for us here in Langenburg are the same obstacles that every community is battling at this time. Obviously, the pandemic itself has been unimaginable. I just hope that folks can continue to operate safely and responsibly for themselves and others and that we can get through this as quickly as possible.“The other big obstacle is the alienation we as Western Canadians are experiencing from our federal government. The negative economic impact they’ve had on us is very scary. If things don’t start to trend in the other direction soon, I’m very fearful of the long term consequences.”

Jeremy Stasiuk who appears to be a calm and approachable gentleman has a clear and level-headed vision that seems to fall into place of continuing the legacy of sound fiscal spending to further benefit the Town of Langenburg.Congratulations Jeremy on your acclimation as Mayor.
