Where someone applies for a parade permit in Yorkton changed Monday at the regular meeting of City Council.
The existing policy had the R.C.M.P. indicated as the origin or authority, with the administrative end of the policy being conducted by the Director of Legislations & Procedures (City Clerk), explained Darcy McLeod, Director Community Development, Parks & Recreation.
In a review of Policy McLeod had it was found the parade permit policy would fit “better under the Community Development, Parks & Recreation Department.
“In conjunction with the revisions being made to the City of Yorkton Traffic Bylaw, and in consultation with Bylaw Services, the office of the City Clerk, and the R.C.M.P., policy change recommendations are being made to reflect this shift in responsibility, as well as detailed instructions added on the parade application process. All applications still require the approval of the R.C.M.P., and notification will be provided to the Public Works Department, Engineering Department, and the Parks Division to minimize any conflict between city projects and the parade.”
Once a parade is approved notice will be provided to City Council, Yorkton EMS, the Yorkton Business Improvement District, and the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, policy changes were also streamlined Monday.
“Administration believes that the Parade Permit policy is not required to be a City Council Policy and can be relocated from the City-Wide Policy Manual to the Community Development, Parks and Recreation Department’s administrative policy manual,” explained McLeod.
The changes were supported unanimously by Council.
