Police use Tazer when arresting wanted man with stolen vehicle

A sawed-off rifle was found in the stolen vehicle the man was allegedly driving.

SASKATOON - A 19-year-old man was arrested following an incident involving a stolen vehicle on Nov. 25 that began shortly after 8 p.m. and resulted in Saskatoon Police deploying a Conducted Energy Weapon.

An on duty SPS member had observed a vehicle that had been previously reported stolen from Regina entering the city on Highway 11 near Vic Blvd. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed and the vehicle was followed and stopped on Circle Dr. near Airport Dr. where the man refused to comply with demands to surrender himself for arrest.

The man was attempting to flee from officers when a CEW was deployed successfully and he was taken into custody without further incident. A sawed-off rifle was found in the vehicle.

The accused was wanted for being unlawfully at large. In addition, he is charged with possession of stolen property and a number of firearm related offences.

Saskatoon Police didn't release the man's name and say the incident will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
