The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum is getting ready to open for another busy season. The museum will officially open on May 25 with an open house. The public is welcome.

The museum will be featuring the Ukrainian Room as it is the Year of the Ukrainian, said Agnes Murrin. As in the traditional Ukrainian welcome, museum staff will be serving homemade bread and jam, refreshments and other goodies.

“We are excited to have three new theme rooms open to the public,” said Murrin. “We now have an electronics room, a hair salon room /washing room and the beginnings of our ’50s room. We have reorganized the fashion room and had additional items donated for the military room.”

The whole exterior of the museum is getting a freshening up with new paint, she said.

“Among the other events we have planned this year is a ’50s event on June 24 with ’50’s music, a mini show-and-shine and when we will be serving floats, sundaes and banana splits. We will be having our chili, clay oven bread day in conjunction with Old Home Week. This will be on July 13. We also plan on celebrating cultural days on September 30. Keep an eye out for our posters closer to these events.

“As it is also the time of spring cleaning and re-organizing, the museum staff would like to remind everyone that we are always looking for artifacts that help us display the history of Preeceville and District,” Murrin said. “We are also requesting any readable old Preeceville Progress papers as we are compiling them for any future research and history books.
