City manager Lonnie Kaal made a shortened Public Awareness Report to Council at its regular meeting Monday.

There were only two items covered by the circulated report. They were;

• Reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of Broadway Street East is nearing completion and one lane opened to traffic September 4th. The Kelsey Bay intersection has been completed and provides access to businesses south of Broadway Street East. On Tuesday September 8, the westbound lanes were closed for construction, and westbound traffic is now being diverted to the Hamilton Road detour. Westbound traffic continues to have access to Parkland Mall via the Mayhew Avenue entrance. The project is expected to be completed by late September, although sporadic wet conditions continue to slow progress. Landscaping, lighting and pathway development work continues. Redevelopment of the Mayhew to Darlington Street corridor, which had been planned for this year, has now been postponed to 2016. The Dracup Corridor is a higher priority and if time and weather permits we will complete this project first.

• Continuing upgrades to Dracup Avenue North are progressing well and concrete resurfacing will begin following completion of the Broadway East project. Again, due to lateness of the season the Roundabout at the Dracup Avenue/Darlington Street intersection has also been postponed to 2016. However, we plan to lay temporary pavement through the intersection this fall to eliminate the rough surface residents now experience. It will also reduce spring maintenance due to washouts and potholes. The cost for the temporary pavement will be $22,000 and the asphalt can be reclaimed for use elsewhere in the future. Grading and dust control of the intersection has already cost over $17,000 this year. When you include additional maintenance this fall and early 2016 before the roundabout can be constructed, temporary paving is the most expedient and cost efficient solution.
