Saskatoon canine unit locates loaded rifle

Patrol officers with the assistance of the K-9 Unit located a loaded sawed off rifle.

SASKATOON — Saskatoon Police Service says a 33-year-old male is in custody and facing numerous firearms charges following an incident Saturday morning.

Police received a call March 19 at 7:19 a.m., indicating a male was walking in the area of the 1300 block of Elliot Street with a gun and had pointed it at them from a distance away.

Patrol officers located the suspect and he attempted to flee on foot while carrying the firearm.

The suspect went into several backyards and hid the firearm prior to being arrest. He was taken into custody without incident.

Patrol officers with the assistance of the K-9 Unit located a loaded sawed off rifle.

The male will remain in detention until being seen by a Justice of the Peace Saturday evening facing firearms charges, including point firearm, and breach of a court order. The victim that had the firearm pointed at them and suspect are not known to each other.
