Shane Nelson deemed top fisherman at Nelson Lake derby

Shane Nelson of Preeceville won the award for the biggest fish caught at the Nelson Lake ice fishing derby on March 24.

The Endeavour Eagles club sponsored the second-time derby.

"There were 51 fishermen with five northern pike caught during the derby," said Evan Steppan, organizer. "The weather was not bad even though the wind was pretty cold but fishermen enjoyed the derby.

“This was the second year we sponsored the event and we will continue this as a yearly family event," he said.

Shane Nelson caught the largest fish that measured 21 and 5/8 inches and it was also the first fish caught.

Brant Barber caught the second-largest fish which measured 21 and 3/8 inches. Tyler Murrison won third for his fish that measured 20 and 3/8 inches.

Chris Halkyard won the smallest fish that measured 19 and 1/8 inches.

Colby Nieckar was the winner of the chainsaw draw.
