There were 31 delegates representing six communities who gathered at the Legion Hall in Kamsack for the Saskatchewan Hospital Auxiliaries District 3 area meeting on April 11.
Mayor Nancy Brunt delivered greetings on behalf of the Town of Kamsack.
“Having been a patient I cannot tell you how much I appreciate seeing you lovely ladies show up with goodies, reading materials and television sets,” said Brunt. “There is nothing worse than being alone in a hospital bed with nothing but your owns thoughts, 24/7, so the very fact that auxiliary members are there to deliver amenities to take a person’s mind off his or her situation is what helps patients and their families get through those trying times.
“Everything the auxiliary members fundraise for and buy for the hospitals is frosting on the cake.
“I have to express there is so much appreciation amongst those who use the hospitals for the work that you, as the auxiliary, do, so I hope you take time to congratulate yourselves on a job well-done, and enjoy the presentations at today’s conference,” she said.
The following communities were represented by members at the meeting: Canora, Esterhazy, Melville, Preeceville, Wynyard, Hudson Bay and the host town of Kamsack. Representatives of Lestock were unable to attend.
Discussions, guest speakers, a memorial service and entertainment were on the agenda for this year’s meeting.
Guest speakers were: Carla Chernoff, discussing foot care, and Kerry Musey and Marcy Eskra of the Sunrise Wellness team speaking about the Active Aging program.
Colleen Kazakoff of Kamack provided musical entertainment for the delegates and sang several songs. She closed her set with a tribute to the Humboldt Broncos by singing Amazing Grace, and she asked the delegates to join her in song.
Olga Rezansoff led a memorial service to honour deceased auxiliary members. Candles were lit in honour of their memory.
Marj Orr presented Darlene Brown with a card to acknowledge her many years of service with the Kamsack Hospital Auxiliary. Brown joined the auxiliary in 1976, and served as treasurer since 1978. She also served as the treasurer of the provincial body for two terms, and as such helped organize meetings and conventions. Although having moved to Yorkton in November, she is still a member of the Kamsack auxiliary.

Plans were made to hold next year’s meeting in Preeceville.
