The Town of Canora recently brought in an electronic speed sign in an attempt to discourage drivers from speeding within Canora, especially in areas such as school zones.

David Wasyliw, town foreman, said the move already appears to be having an effect, since many drivers have been seen slowing down after they read the sign.

The sign reads and shows the speed of each oncoming vehicle. If the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit, a white strobe light comes on to warn the driver. The sign is similar to those used in other communities, and can be moved around if needed.

The sign is solar powered and computer controlled, allowing the speed limit to easily be changed as needed.

Wasyliw said the town expects to bring in more speed signs in the near future.
