Sprinklers help minimize fire damage in commercial fire in Saskatoon

Sprinklers help contain a commercial fire.

SASKATOON — A properly working sprinkler system help minimize the damage of a commercial fire on Tuesday in the 1400 block of Fletcher Road.

The call was received at 11:56 a.m. and Saskatoon Fire Department dispatched three engines, one ladder truck, a rescue truck, the battalion chief and a fire investigator.

The information received pre-arrival was the fire started in a shredding room where shredded paper was believed to be on fire. All employees were evacuated.

First arriving personnel saw smoke and the fire was contained with the help of the sprinkler system that was activated.

The source of the fire was identified as a paper baler and shredded paper.

The cause of the fire was accidental and caused an estimated $25,000 worth of damage.
