The Mayor of Spy Hill for this term will be Susie Atkinson. She became the Mayor of Spy Hill on November 9th but this is not her first time in the council chambers. Atkinson served two terms as a councillor approximately twenty years ago.
Born and raised in Spy Hill, she stated, “I am proud of this community. Spy Hill is a small village with residents of the village and the R.M. showing their big hearts.”
Atkinson credited the residents for being willing to give of themselves to help the community. She declared, “They volunteer their time and energy on various community groups such as the volunteer fire department, the local library and the newly formed Spy Hill and District Community Club, just to name a few.”
But her praise of the local residents doesn’t stop there, as she continued explaining why she loves her hometown. “The community also has businesses that provide key services to the village and R. M. that also play a huge part in the strength and heart of Spy Hill. All of this is made up of the great people of the village and surrounding area.”
When asked why she had the desire to run for Mayor of Spyhill, Atkinson replied, “ I want to serve as mayor and work with the council, all of the groups, businesses and residents to ensure that the community remains a strong and safe community....I am both humbled and honoured to serve. I will do my best to serve and act in the best interests of the village and all residents.” She quickly followed up with, “I also recognize that I have the privilege of working with a great village council and I look forward to working with councillors Allan Perrin, Ralph Jack and William Perrin, as well as Administrator Susan Gawryluk.”
Congratulations to Spy Hill and Susie Atkinson on what seems to be a hometown inspired mayor looking to lead this “big-hearted town” over the next four years.
