Although the number of trophies brought in to be measured were about the same as last year, there remains a steady increase cycle of the area’s game population, according to Riley Barrowman, president of the Kamsack Branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF.)
“Again, this year, the members brought in some good sized trophies from white-tailed and mule deer and elk, but we didn’t have any bear or moose,” he said. “Game management is playing a good role in the steady increase cycle of our wild game.”
The Broda Sportsplex mezzanine saw a steady stream of hunters bring their trophies in for measurement on December 13.
A short meeting was held during the evening and plans for the spring banquet, date as yet to be decided, was among items discussed.
Heath Dreger of Yorkton, the president of the SWF and official measurer for the Boone and Crocket, Henry Kelsey and Pope and Young organizations was set up to measure the trophies. Helping to measure were Clinton Chernoff, former president of the Kamsack branch and district delegate and Barrowman.
Barrowman said they measured four elk trophies over 250 inches and more than 20 white-tailed and mule deer during the event.
Manning the membership table, Alison Stefiuk and Walter Lesiuk sold more than 85 SWF memberships during the evening. Door prize draws were made from the names of memberships purchased and Linda and Ferris Scobie were the winners of the game camera, and Derek Shankowsky won the hunting blind.
