Town council accepts proposal regarding landfill decommissioning and new waste facility design

The hiring of swimming pool staff and a proposal regarding landfill decommissioning and a design for a new solid waste facility were among the items of concern for town council at its regular meeting on March 3.

Council accepted the proposal of Tetra Tech Canada Inc. to provide a decommissioning and reclamation cost estimate to the landfill, assistance in completing an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) application and a conceptual design for a solid waste management facility at an estimated cost of $28,458.

Council agreed to hire the following swimming pool staff for 2020: Mackenzie Gulka (manager); Jill Gulka (assistant manager); Janayah Merriam, Ashley Stusek and Emma Mykytyshyn (full time); Garrett Bazuik, Drea Beblow, Zane Chopik and Emily Owchar (part time); Mina Mykytyshyn, Carter Matychuk, Lexie Biletski, Breanne Woloshyn, Zoe Thomas and Bella Mykytyshyn (casual).

Council accepted the recommendations in the February 18 notice from Miles Hutchings, building inspector, regarding the permit requirements for 726 Main Street.

Council approved a municipal tax concession to Syl Hrynkiw and Matt Hrynkiw for the property located at 119 Main Street (Lot 10, Block 2, Plan G2107):

Purchase a commercial or industrial building or structure, vacant for more than one year, and operate a business there from provided it is an arms-length transaction:

  • 2020                50 per cent
  • 2021                50 per cent
  • 2022                25 per cent

Council authorized Brian Bernath, labourer, to attend ground disturbance training to be held March 19 at Parkland College in Yorkton.

A bylaw to enter into a farm land lease agreement was introduced, read three times and adopted.
