Canora will be adopting a new five-year capital plan for the town office’s expenses after approval at the latest town council meeting.
The town council meeting was held on September 6 to organize all the town’s planned projects and contracts into a projected budget for the years of 2015 to 2020. Along with the water main replacement construction that was planned in a prior meeting and is currently underway, the capital plan has revenue designated to replace a grader and backhoe, make upgrades to the Civic Centre including the lobby roof, undertake a major paving project, replace a garbage truck, and purchase a new swimming pool.
The total expenses for each year are between $968,000 and $1,670,400, depending on how many major projects are taken on each year.
The meeting also approved a request for Canora to be removed from the Whitesand Regional Park Authority due to the fact that the town is no longer included in the boundaries of the park.
Also discussed was damages to a Main Street building done by a street sweeper. The council handled the damage claim and authorized Homestead Glass to repair a broken window.
Two bylaws, No. 16-11 and No. 16-12, were passed by the council at the meeting. The first was in regards to Dr. Sirous Jafarian and allows him to officially practice medicine in Canora. Jafarian has been a general practitioner at the Canora Health and Wellness Centre since February.
Bylaw No. 16-12 is in regards to an easement agreement between the Town of Canora and the Saskatchewan Power Corporation of Regina.
The town council meeting held on September 6 took place in the Canora town council chambers. Attending the meeting were Mayor Gina Rakochy and councillors Cory O’Dell, James Trofimenkoff and Syl Hrynkiw, as well as Michael Mykytyshyn, the chief administrative officers. Absent were councillors Matthew Nehaj, Brad Gabora, and Gerald Wolkowski.
