The second annual festival of trees encouraged individuals to take the time to appreciate what’s special during the busy Christmas season. The trees brightly lit and hand decorated in different themes lined the walls of the Trinity United Church in Preeceville from December 9 to 12. The trees were surrounded by Christmas music, hot apple cider and great fellowship in a tranquil setting all geared towards enjoying the Christmas season.
The Christmas season is busy time of year and the festival is a time of sharing, visiting, and donating to worthy causes, all surrounded by the spirit of Christmas.
Businesses, organizations and individuals that participated in the tree decorating were included the Preeceville LTC auxiliary. Loranda Blender decorated her tree with hair accessories and topped it with a mannequin’s head. The donations from her tree went to the Canadian Cancer Society. Lynn and Roland Larsen had a horseshoe tree with all the donations received going towards the Parkland Therapetic Riding Association. The Preeceville Lioness Club’s brightly decorated tree featured the club's colour of purple. The proceeds from the tree were allotted towards the Mushers’ multi-purpose pad. The Preeceville Museum decorated a tree in a gingerbread and nostalgic theme. KevRhon Transport decorated a small tree with all proceeds going towards the Mushers’ multi-purpose pad. Home Hardware decorated a tree with donations that were received going to Filling the Gap. The Preeceville Nursery School students made decorations that hung from a tree with proceeds going to the Saskatchewan Children's Hospital.
The Trinity United Church decorated a tree with donations going to support Gifts with Vision. The United Church of Canada provides Mission & Service support to partners all year long for their ongoing work in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and here in Canada. The Family Resource Centre Christmas tree donations went to Filling the Gap.
Grace United Church sponsored a tree with all donations received going to Canada Feed the Children. The Beti Sigmi Phi organization decorated a tree with a SPCA theme. The Preeceville Personal Care Home decorated a tree with the residents’ pictures. The Preeceville Home Care staff decorated a tree paying tribute to STARS Air Ambulance.
