Trevor Cook rink topped Sturgis open

The Sturgis open curling bonspiel that attracted 14 teams featured three events from January 18 to 23. The Trevor Cook rink, with members Tammy Cook, Merlin Alberts and Shane Nelson, topped the A event.

            The B event was won by the Trudy Halvorson rink with rink members Keith Babiuk, Kylie Babiuk and Mason Babiuk.

            The C event was captured by Brad Cameron, Eugene Boychuk, Terry Mang and Jim Prekaski.

            Other rinks entered included: Patrick Kardynal, Tim Olson, Cory Babiuk, Tyler Blender, Conrad Peterson, Dale Lisoway, Ivan Peterson, Sheldon Luciw, Merv Secundiak, Amanda Masley and Brooke Olson.

            The week-long event featured a steak supper on January 23.

            The Sturgis Composite High School junior mixed curlers were scheduled to host the ECDAA junior mixed curling on January 29 and 30 at the Sturgis rink. The Sturgis rink is comprised of Garrett Baziuk (skip), Brynn Babiuk (third), Shae Peterson (second) and Kylie Babiuk (lead). Hunter Mirva is the spare.

The seven teams scheduled to enter will feature teams from Saltcoats, Esterhazy, Springside, Preeceville, Canora, Norquay and the host team Sturgis.
