After close to 350 performers participated in the Parkland Music Festival at the Canora Composite School during the week, a number of the top candidates performed for the final concert on February 13.
About 75 persons attended the concert.
With Gillian Rice as the emcee, the concert began with the singing of O Canada, led by Carmen and Ashley Stusek of Canora.
Abby Gulka of Canora was the first to perform. She played Sweet the Sound on the piano. She won the Canora Wheatland Lioness Club $100 scholarship.
Jhett, Natalia and Cayden Kelly of Canora played Chopsticks for Three on the piano. They won the Canora Wheatland Lioness $100 scholarship. Cayden won the Knights of Columbus $50 scholarship. Natalia sang Lullaby and won the 88 Keys Music $50 scholarship for voice.
Carman Stusek of Canora sang Pie Jesu and won the Gateway Co-op $100 scholarship for voice.
Harry Bartel of Preeceville played The Happy Hippo and won the RM of Sliding Hills $50 scholarship for band.
Ira Mykytyshyn of Canora played Tap the Hat on piano and won the Canora Auto Electric $25 scholarship for piano.
Emily Prestie of Preeceville played Imagine on the piano and won the Crossroads Credit Union $75 scholarship.
The Canora Junior Elementary School Grade 1 class performed Five Green and Speckled Frogs and won the Canora Pharmacy $30 scholarship.
Isaiah Maier of Preeceville played Coconut Rag and won theMcTavish Concrete $25 scholarship for band.
Melody Michl of Canora played Starfish at Nightand won the Seidle Law Firm $25 scholarship for piano.
Kiera Balyski of Preeceville played Angel Fish on the piano and won the RM of Sliding Hills $75 scholarship.
Hunter Brice and Erika Sweeney of Canora sang It’s a Hard Knock Life. Brice won the Knights of Columbus $50 scholarship for voice and Sweeney won the St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s League $50 scholarship for voice.
Ashely Stusek of Canora sang You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun and won the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League $80 scholarship for voice.
Rhianna Olson, Shanae Olson and Peyton Secondiak of Sturgis played Little March and won the Town of Canora $50 scholarship for band.
Kennedy Kosheluk of Preeceville played Old Adam and won the Duck Mountain Ambulance $100 scholarship for piano. She also won the Canora Wheatland Lioness Club $100 scholarship for piano. Playing in a class eligible for provincials, she received the adjudicator’s recommendation to perform in the provincial festival on June 3-5 in Regina.
Faith and Ivan Fidek of Invermay played Maple Leaf Rag and won the MySpray Therapeutics $50 scholarship for piano. Ivan also played Sunset in Rio and won the Joy Fiala $100 scholarship and The Blend Salon $50 scholarship. Faith won the Homestead Lock and Glass $100 scholarship.
Audrey Vargus of Sturgis played Miniature Dance Suite Anglaise and won the Rice Construction $50 scholarship.
Jenna Korol of Canora played London Bridge is Getting Down and won the Beta Sigma Phi Preceptor Tau $50 scholarship for piano.
Hailey Sharko of Canora played The Stars are with the Voyager and won the Town of Kamsack $75 scholarship for piano.
Curtis McGriskin and Kade Wishnevetski of Kamsack played Stand By Me and won the Mall Centre Pharmacy $30 scholarship.
Brooklyn Korol of Canora played Swingin’ Ain’t Easy and won the Town of Kamsack $100 scholarship for piano.
Mina Mykytyshyn of Canora played the final number in the concert which was Kings Mills Locks and won the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League $120 scholarship.

In the speech arts category: Damian Woolman of Canora received the CIBC Canora $25 scholarship; Luca Propp of Canora received the Knights of Columbus $25 scholarship; The Grade 2 CJES class received the Leson’s Funeral Home $25 scholarship; the Grade 4 CJES class received the Leson’s Funeral Home $25 scholarship; and River Crane of Canora received the RM of Sliding Hills $25 scholarship.
In the voice category, Hailey Sharko of Canora received the Canora Wheatland Lioness Club $50 scholarship; Elizabeth Ashley of Kamsack received the Grandma’s Garden and Greenhouse $50 scholarship; Cambrie Ostafie of Canora received RM of Sliding Hills $50 scholarship; Payton Hudye of Canora received the Canora Music Society $25 scholarship and the Canora Courier $25 scholarship for guitar; and Logan Statchuk of Buchanan received the Canora CAP/CPR $25 scholarship.
In the guitar category: Elizabeth Ashley of Kamsack received the 88 Keys Music $50 scholarship and the Ludba Construction $25 scholarship; Kale Strelioff of Canora received the Canora Auto Electric $25 scholarship; and Hayden Strelioff received the Canora Music Society $25 scholarship.
In the band category, winners were: the GSSD senior band won the Penguin Refridgeration $50 scholarship; Ryu Rada of Preeceville received the Town of Kamsack $25 scholarship; the KCI (Kamsack) Junior Band received the Town of Kamsack $50 scholarship; Eli Kashuba of Preeceville received the Town of Kamsack $25 scholarship; the GSSD Intermediate Band received the Kamsack Arts Council $50 scholarship; the KCI Grade 7A xylophone group received the Notched Branch Bistro $50 scholarship; Audrey Vargas of Sturgis received the Rice Construction $50 scholarship; the KCI Grade 8B xylophone group received the Rice Construction $50 scholarship; and Jordyn Thomas and Kate Erhardt of Kamsack received the Canora Equipment Rentals $40 scholarship.
