Last Friday’, (Sept. 4), storm ripped out trees by their roots over at Donnie Ferguson’s farm on the edge of Moosomin.
“It ripped trees out by the roots. I couldn’t believe such a thing for the size of it, that took a lot of power. This was a twister or a plough-wind call it what you want,” said Ferguson, a local farmer who has lived on the farm for almost 70 years.
“I lived here all my life except for the four years I lived in Alberta,” says Ferguson.
Although the wind did do some damage to trees and a few buildings, the livestock seemed to come out unharmed.
“It is amazing that no animals were killed...The animals are all fine, I don’t know how they got through this one,” Ferguson said.
One of the trees that got uprooted is so large that Ferguson was not able to move it with his tractor.
“I’m going to have to get a payloader to get that (tree) out. It took a lot of power to pull these trees out,” Ferguson explains.
Storms are not uncommon in Southeast of Saskatchewan, but this storm was unique in the eyes of Ferguson.
“I finally got out with a flashlight and I couldn’t see a thing. It really went berserk out here, it was unreal. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen that strong a wind coming from the south west, in my life,” Ferguson said.
