Winter Lights Christmas Contest winners announced

Winners in the Canora Winter Lights Christmas Contest were rewarded for adding a bit of festive cheer to the town.

            Winners in the Canora Winter Lights Christmas Contest were rewarded for adding a bit of festive cheer to the town.

            The Canora Winter Lights Christmas Contest, also known as the “Get Your Christmas On” contest, was organized by Jo-Anne Sigurdson, the community development officer for the Town of Canora. Residents who decorated their houses or businesses were automatically entered in the contest, and applicants were judged during the Winter Lights Festival.

            First place in the commercial category for Canora businesses was awarded to Kevin Hryhoriw and Carnation Street Florals for his nativity display, which showcased the true message of Christmas.

            First place in the residential category was awarded to Steven and Margaret Krutz at 209 Shevchenko Crescent for an impressive collection of lights.

            Honourable mentions included displays at 226 Alexander Avenue, 202 Gertrude Avenue, 134 Coronation Drive, 147 Coronation Drive, 198 Jubilee Crescent, 152 Jubilee Crescent, 214 Fourth Avenue, 222 Fourth Avenue, 218 Fourth Avenue, 204 Shevchenko Crescent and 337 Eighth Avenue East.

            Winners in the residential category will get 100 Canora Dollars to be spent at local businesses, Sigurdson said.
