In the face of tragedy, words can feel cheap. Like everyone in Canada, I was stunned by the Humboldt Broncos bus crash last Friday. It felt surreal, like something out of a bad melodrama. But as the reports filtered in, it became all too real.

Sending my heart back to my home town
If there was an SJHL team I wanted to have a good season, it was the Humboldt Broncos. If they found themselves on top of the league standings, I was happy. It wasn’t so much a love of the team, but an appreciation of Humboldt itself.
