LUCKY LAKE - It might be the month of May and with the exception of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the weather doesn't exactly have many thinking about hockey, but the ice dreams of many young players around the province have kicked into high gear with the recent WHL Prospects Draft.

Held on Thursday, May 9, a total of 45 Saskatchewan-born hockey players were selected in the draft. Locally, this included 15-year old Jake Hargrave from Lucky Lake.

The young athlete, who most recently played for the Swift Current Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos, was selected in the third round, 57th overall by the Kelowna Rockets. Hargrave, a defenseman, caught the attention of scouts with 33 points in 25 regular season games with the Broncos and also managed to carry that offense into the playoffs, where he nabbed 10 points in seven games. Jake also played a few regular season games with the Swift Current AAA team this past season, collecting an assist.

Skating in 26 games overall for the Broncos this past season, Hargrave scored eight goals, nabbed 29 assists, and gained 37 points.

Hargrave has committed to the Swift Current U18 AAA Legionnaires for the 2024-25 season.
