Provincial hockey banner raised for Outlook Ice Hawks

Coach Bob Stephenson looks back on a memorable year during ceremony.

OUTLOOK - The Outlook Ice Hawks took a little time to commemorate last season's provincial championship victory before their home game against the Rosetown Redwings on Wednesday, November 16.

Before the puck was dropped, the team held a ceremony at center ice that celebrated Outlook's championship win back in March, with the Provincial Senior B Championship banner raised high above in the Jim Kook Rec Plex.

Bob Stephenson, who coached the Hawks to that provincial win, said a few words before the banner was skybound, thanking the fans who supported the team and everyone who made it such a memorable season.

"Thank you for what you did for the community and what you did for the Rec Plex," he said, addressing Ice Hawks players who were along for that championship ride. "It was a lot of fun, seeing what you all did. The fans were with us all year long and we appreciate that. For me, it was one of the highlights of my hockey life, and I still chuckle at some of the things that this team pulled off from that run last year. It was fun to watch and we had lots of skilled players, and all the players had their roles and did their thing. We discovered that this team had a huge amount of character, and without that, you don't win anything."

Hockey fans in Outlook will only have to raise their heads a bit to see the banner, with that rectangular-shaped cloth labelling Outlook as champions serving as the ultimate prize that one team fought tooth and nail for during one magical run last March.
