Village of Elbow 'flips the switch' on Christmas tradition

The lakeside community of Elbow once again become a Christmas village with their annual 'Flip the Switch' event.

ELBOW - For the fourth year in a row, the lakeside village of Elbow turned into a Christmas Wonderland as cars full of people from all over the regional area visited the community to take in the annual 'Flip the Switch' holiday event.

Before the cars arrived, a look inside the Harbor Golf Club showed off the impressive group of Christmas trees, which are sure to grab attention throughout the season. From there, the lineup of folks waiting for some hot chocolate and treats from Santa Claus and his crew of helpers was steady, with over 50 vehicles making their way through the parking lot. From there, people drove out across neighborhoods and local streets to take in all of the Christmas decorations and homes that were dressed up for the holiday season.

The winning homes for this year belonged to Pete & Areta Bowring (1st Place), Cory Ganes (2nd Place), and Ken & Joyce South (3rd Place). For their efforts, they'll receive gift certificates for $160, $100 and $60 that can be used at local businesses. As well, 110 folks entered the draw for a turkey hamper, which was won by Shirley Knutson.

The event was capped off with a fireworks display courtesy of Dale and Ann Norrish just outside the Elbow Hotel, as the colorful explosions reverberated across Lake Diefenbaker and could likely be heard on the other side of the water.

This cherished holiday event was born out of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, but has since been a staple in Elbow, of which many people look forward to when the Christmas season comes around.
