Andy Galiz  February 15, 1922  July 17, 2015. Andrew Galiz was born February 15, 1922 in Bekachaba, Hungary. He was the first born of 3 children and came to Canada in 1926 where sisters Judy and Mary were born. In 1931 Andy’s father died and Andy continued to go to school and did a lot of work to support his family. Andy finished school in 1936 and worked on farm and threshing crews in Ebenezer area and winter months he worked for Western Construction Co. In 1939 Andy joined the Saskatoon Light Infantry when Second World War began.

He served in the army for 51/2 years. During this time he met Lavena Price from Manchester, England. After the war they married in Manchester in October 1945. As a Canadian soldier Andy was sent home in February 1946 and Vena followed in May 1946 and stayed with family till 1947 when they moved to a farm in Usherville area. Land was cleared and a mixed farm established.

They welcomed five children: Wayne (Pearl), Richard, Allan (Lori), Randy (Geraldine) and Valerie (Wayne) and many grandchildren, great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. Andy supported the farm working as a Sawyer in the bush. In 1981 Andy retired to Preeceville and continued to help on the farm.

Vena passed away in 2009 and Andy lived in his home until he entered Sturgis and District Care Home in March 2014. In late April 2015 he entered Preeceville Hospital and then palliative care unit in long term wing on July 7, 2015 and passed away July 17, 2015. Andy loved all his children and grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, curling and watching baseball on TV.
