Busy weekend was highlighted by horse racing

Numerous activities kept young and old busy at the Preeceville and District Lions Club Western Weekend

Chuckwagon races were part of the highlights at the Preeceville Lions Western Weekend.

PREECEVILLE — Along with the featured chariot and chuck-wagon races, there were numerous other activities to keep everyone busy at the Preeceville and District Lions Club Western Weekend on July 11, 12, and 13.

The activities were all well-attended, and the organizers were pleased with the weekend.

Friday night kicked off the events with a chariot and chuck wagon races sponsored by the Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuck Wagon Association.

A Texas hold-em poker tournament was held on Friday evening after the chariot and chuck-wagon races. There was also an outdoor movie night held under the stars with the showing of the movie, Captain America: Brave New World.

There were 46 entries in the chariot race. The top three winners of the three-day total were, first to third, Ryan Peterson, Colin Kiborn and Carol Hooge.

There were 33 entries in the chuck-wagon race. The top three winners of the three-day total were Kelvin Hawreluik, Carol Hooge, and Casey Peterson, in that order.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, children had the opportunity to play on inflatable bouncing castles and the playground equipment provided some extra entertainment. Children also had the opportunity to have their faces painted, participate in a variety of games, and to dig in the sand for loonies. Loiselle Creek Petting Zoo from Hudson Bay was in attendance on both days as well as Gerald Ignatiuk of Preeceville, who offered barrel rides for all children.

Also on Saturday, there were seven teams entered in the co-ed slo-pitch ball tournament.

The mini trade show was held on Saturday, as well as a beach volleyball fun tournament featuring eight teams.

A car show and shine featured 15 entries, William Rehaluk with a 1979 Cadillac Coupe Deville; Gene Kyowski with a 1958 Edsel; Jim Holowachuk with a 1972 Cada; Carter Scheller with a 1988 GTO Dodge; Kent Scheller with a 1998 GMC 6.5 Diesel; Darren Descalchuk with a 2007 Harley Night motorcycle; Rose Descalchuk with a 1985 Pontiac Hearse; Ted Corbett with a 1935 Dodge Coup; Barry Lupichuk with a 1967 Chevelle; Kelsey Kosheluk with a 1986 Monte Carlo; Mike Andrusko with a 1984 Corvette; Chase Zurowski with a 2002 Mustang: Trevor Reynolds with a 1982 Chev and Brody Descalchuk with a 2002 Mustang CT.

Saddles and Steel supplied the music for the open-air dance, and a firework show concluded the evening.

Sunday morning was kicked off with a pancake breakfast, followed by cowboy service at the sportsgrounds.

The Preeceville Nursery School sponsored bingo games under the big top during the two days.

A gymkhana, sponsored by the Etomamie Valley Riders Club, was held on Saturday and Sunday.

A concession, beer gardens and ice cream treats were available on both days. There were plane rides available from Leading Edge Aviation from Yorkton and a magician Magic Jay entertained the children on both days.

The Preeceville Volunteer Fire Department was responsible for keeping the track watered for dust control, and firemen sold 50/50 tickets. KevRhon Transport supplied a water tanker for watering the track.

Pink Ladies food truck featured sweet treats and food.

Prince Buenaflor, a professional arm wrestler, displayed his arm wrestling techniques by taking on a handful of competitors.
