Yorkton This Week

The various groundhogs of fame, Wiarton Willy and Punxsutawney Phil among them, are often thought of as the harbingers of spring. Sports fans know this is not the case.

Dear Editor, Have you been to Klean Cut Meats yet? I drove past many times last autumn thinking I should stop in and see what the new business has to offer. I finally did and I am glad I did. The little meat shop has wonderful meat.

One of the biggest football events in the province is making its way to Yorkton for the first time in its history. Yorkton is hosting the Viterra Senior Bowl on May 25-27. Football Saskatchewan organizes the event.

The Yorkton Kinsmen AA Midget season has come to an end. The Terriers had topped the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League’s AA Midget Division, and manoeuvred through the playoffs to the league final against the Regina Rangers.

No one likes tax increases. And no one particularly likes programming cuts. The Saskatchewan Party knows that, so in last year’s budget they offloaded cuts to municipalities, letting local governments cut programming, or hike taxes.

Yorkton This Week has had a change in the publisher’s chair. Jim Ambrose recently announced his retirement as V.P. of Operations Prairie Newspaper Group with Glacier Media Inc., a position which encompassed publisher of Yorkton This Week.

In Yorkton Court of Queen’s Bench on Friday, closing arguments were presented in the case of Gregor Gmerek, who is accused of fraud, forgery and uttering a forged document during his time as an employee at Prairie Livestock in Moosomin.
