Yorkton This Week

Harvest all but wrapped up for producers in the province as 99 per cent of the crop is now combined, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report. There are still some crops such as flax, soybean and sunflower left to be combined.

It is always a highlight of the fall season for me to attend the annual Harvest Showdown in Yorkton. In many ways it takes me back to my roots.

The annual Remembrance Day program was held Saturday at the Nexera Flexihall at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton. The program was led by Legion Padre SLT Rev.

I didn’t grow up in a particularly diverse town. The majority of people were not only German Catholics, they were German Catholics who mostly came from the same rough area of Germany when they immigrated.

In Halifax, a car is next to useless. In Yorkton, it’s a lifeline. I lived in the ‘Fax (as we cool kids call it) for five years. In that time, I relied exclusively on public transportation and my two feet.

Wednesday, November 15, 2017 marked the first birthday of North 40 Fabrics in Yorkton. Celebrations included a ribbon cutting and cake at 2 p.m. as well as many specials, draws and in-store demos.
