Youngsters are learning how to play the game of baseball thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton and Jays Cares Rookie League.

The Yorkton E&S Yankees are champions of the South East Senior Baseball League again. The team defeated the Canora Supers in a best-of-five series, sweeping the Supers in three games.

A driver involved in a car crash on July 27 near Neudorf has died. Melville RCMP responded to a singlevehicle collision complaint around 9:40 p.m. They found a van down an embarkment on a grid road. It was located 11 kms south from Neudorf.

Everyone who is drawn to a grill has a secret for great barbecue. Jared Ruf from In Good Taste Foods said it’s a combination of things in terms of the ribs he served up to win the Rhythm ’n Ribs local rib barbecue competition Saturday.

Minimum wage is a hot-button topic across the country. College students protest their governments to provide a livable wage. Provinces such as Ontario and Alberta are planning to raise their minimum wages to $15 per hour in the near futre.

There is more serious crime in Yorkton for the second straight year. Statistics Canada released the crime severity index statistics for 2016, and it saw Yorkton increase by ten per cent, going from 135.14 to 149.47.

Mrs. Nell Achtemichuk, wife of the late Fred Achtemichuk of Calgary, formerly of Yorkton, passed away on July 21, 2017 in Calgary. She was ninety-three years of age.

Ev (Evelyn) Klause died suddenly on January 25, 2017 at the Royal Masonic Care Home in Vancouver, BC after four days of gently administered palliative care.
