Yorkton This Week

Mrs. Crissie Spokes passed away on December 17, 2016 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK. Crissie was born in the Crescent District on February 23, 1919; a daughter to parents, Edward and Alice (nee Allin) Brimacombe.

Mrs. Joyce Louise (nee Bucholtz) McMurtrie, of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, passed away on December 16, 2016 at the age of 86. She was born on October 31, 1930 in the Wallace district.

Vivian Mary Ann Richels, 1936-2016. Vivian Mary Ann Richels (Putland) was born on December 8, 1936 to George and Lucille Putland. She was born at home with midwife, Ila Boreen and was baptized April 4, 1937.

2016 was a big year for sports in Yorkton. Narrowing the biggest moments down to ten was difficult. The top ten most notable have been decided. Below is the first half of the list. The second half (the top five) will be in next week’s edition. 10.

It is indeed a cliché but just where did the past year go? At this time of year we all reflect on the year that was, and it’s no different in the newspaper business.

Last weekend. Thirty-seven degrees below zero, sunny and no wind. Chickadees chirping, woodpeckers pecking, snow making crisp gasps under my boots. And me, moseying along the row of spruce trees in our side yard, loppers in hand. Humming Christmas.

This is the Christmas issue of Yorkton This Week, so it’s only natural to try to find something that fits as a Christmas film.
