Yorkton This Week

Clients at Safe Haven will be enjoying some wild meat meals over the holidays thanks to a donation made to the local women’s shelter by the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN).

The Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational took place in Brandon, MB this past weekend and the Yorkton Regional High School senior boys’ basketball team was one of the 32 teams to attend. The 32 teams were split into two divisions of 16.

The Yorkton Kinsmen ‘AA’ Terriers of the SSMHL Midget Division hosted three home games this past weekend in Yorkton. The team currently holds a 16-4-2 record, putting them in third place of the thirteen teams in their league.

Dr. Harold Wilkinson of Yorkton, beloved husband of Wilma Wilkinson, passed away on December 12, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Harold Richard Wilkinson was born on February 28, 1922 in Inglewood, ON to Rev.

Irene Lyons of Yorkton, beloved wife of Bob Lyons, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2016 at the Yorkton Union Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer.

It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sheila Schmidt of Yorkton on December 16, 2016. She was 78 years of age.

Betty Dycer was born on July 7, 1929 at home in Grayson, SK; a daughter to Anton and Theresa (nee Fuchs) Zimmer. The family moved to Dubuc, SK where she attended school. Betty would walk two miles to school each day, along the railroad tracks.

Pearl Irene Screpnek, beloved widow of Ernie Screpnek of the Yorkton district, passed away in the St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the age of 80. Pearl was born on September 2, 1936 at a farm near Midale.

It is with great memories and much sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Dawn Pede on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 79 years of age. Shirley was born February 6, 1937 in Canora, SK; the daughter of Don and Ida Davis.

Alice Lungul passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on December 10, 2016 at the age of 84 years. Alice was born on June 21, 1932 to John and Annie (Wiwchar) Dutchak on her paternal grandparent's farm in the Buchanan District.
